My neighbour definitely falls into that demographic.

She just can’t see that Farage is only looking after himself and his mates.

Him and his mates? Not a coincidence that I think 4 of his party are investment bankers.

I think that Farage, like most politicians, actually genuinely believes in most of what he says and does.

Will be intriguing when the Register of Interests is published. I've a disappointing "hunch" that Farage will turn out to be relatively whiter than white (he's been in the public eye for long enough that if there were any corpses buried that at least the Guardian or the Mirror would have dug them up by now), but perhaps the other 3 new MPs (excl Anderson) will have some interesting disclosures to make.

Glad to hear you say that, I've wondered that myself and come to a similar conclusion. I don't think he is a gravy train politician by any stretch, he's just a man of peculiar convictions with something of a talent for getting attention.

The gravy-slurping comes naturally to him, but I'm sure it's a bit of a sideshow and not the main motivation.

I wonder how long he’ll remain an MP before he either gets bored or kicked out. I have my doubts he’ll last all the way to the next election.

And I love that 2 and 3 are sort of mutually exclusive OR require serious mental gymnastics if the same person?

The question is, how can the saner politicians tackle some or all of these pillars?

For 2 - put "New" in front of everything New Labour, New Conservatives,

For 3 - put "Good Ol' " in front of everything Good Ol' Labour, Grand Old Party etc.

YouGov survey:

47% of Conservative members want to merge with Reform, 48% don't.

And the same survey has Braverman as second favourite among Tory members behind Kemi Badenoch to take over as leader. Braverman seems to be bombing in other metrics I've seen.
