Well I'd be surprised if standing and losing makes much sense (the amount of times he's lost is already a sore point) so he's obviously decided being a constituency MP is worth it.

When I first made the remark I did say it was a controversial question as to whether he did want to win or not. It's certainly not an obvious take, but unless he does has achievable, alternative designs (like lead a Tory / majority Reform / merged party) I don't see what he gains from being an MP than he already has. For a man whose lost so much, he's achieved so much, simply by Brexit alone. And it's not that he needs to be an MP to be given a vocal platform. |

He is quite possibly likely to have a reduced platform as an MP. Because the way that the BBC does 'balance' for shows like QT is that because it sees Labour, Lib Dem, Green, SNP, PC as all being broadly "left of centre" and because if it books (currently) a Conservative MP, it must also book a Labour MP and then any other MPs are all going to be broadly left of centre (in the BBC world). That means the 'balance' must come from having right of centre 'think-tanks' or journalists or Farages. This, alongside the fact that he drives "engagement" (clicks these days) is why he has been on the show so many times. And also why the Greens tend to get shortchanged. |

(Not saying I like it, but that is the 'logic' that is used).

The other thing that will be far more open is that his finances and expenses will be under significantly more scrutiny - possibly more so even than when he was an MEP. Mainly because when (not if) he does something stupid/slightly corrupt, it will be front page news - whereas when he was an MEP, it would be page 7 news. |

Aside from your framing, this is standard campaigning behaviour for political parties, particularly on the last few days of campaigns. They always shift resources to seats where they think they can win It was highlighted a week or so back that the conservative candidate for normanton has spent more time campaigning for Iain Duncan-Smith rather than in her prospective constituency. |

You could also frame labours campaign in Clacton as doing the Tories a favour. Or fighting the far right by a slightly less right proxy. This is the conundrum I put posted a while back come true. If in some nightmare world I woke up in Clacton with a polling card next to me, I'd have to stick my tick against the person most likely to beat Faragé |

Centralised bean-counting politics. Like the fire brigade saying it is not worth putting out your house fire as there are two empty houses the other side of the country Also kills the chance for Clacton to mobilise anti-fascist peeps organised by a BAME candidate against Farage But then Starmer doesn’t care about the little people.
