I'd be interested to know if National Service in the forces becomes a de facto draft in the event of any conflict. I mean, of course the military are going to want this: they've been struggling to recruit for years.

It seems that's part of the point and I guess the thinking is that anyone that chooses the military for their national service would be amenable to that if the worst happened and have required skills. |

The Tories are on a roll. I think they have a contest with each other to see what they can f*ck every day. First, it was Sunak getting soaked, then visiting the Titanic at Belfast, then saying having a day off but not, then mandatory (!) service. Satire is utterly dead. |
