[I think I only got copies of that as Gene Kemp visited the school my dad taught at and she was giving out signed copies (or maybe selling them). Enjoyed both that one and Gowie Corby Plays Chicken. I've wiki'd them after you mentioned it, didn't realise that they were "big" books at the time, I'd always just assumed they were some local author trying to drum up sales! Still got both signed copies I think at home. Probably a bit date for my boys to read.]

Cons hitting 23% in a few of the recent polls. That’s a proper wipeout and no mistake, Mary Poppins. Although I would love it if they”actually” got 23% in the next GE I can’t say I think it’s likely. But then they didn’t think Frodo would make it to Mount Doom either and history proved them wrong. I don’t think rubbing shoulders with Elon Musk and spouting consultant-level guff about AI was the big electoral win Rish! thought it might be. I’m guessing the folks in Haseley Knob couldn’t give a flying fig about AI. They are probably more concerned about putting food on the table. |

The Musk thing looked really odd - if there's a less popular tech figure out there at the moment, I don't think they have as high a profile as Musk. Sure, some people love him, and there is plenty of stuff to admire, but he's not the sort of character that aligning yourself with ensures another 5% electoral boost. Those sorts of characters are pretty rare (imagine if someone got David Attenborough on side politically, or got Obama to campaign for them in the UK etc!).

Accommodation for the homeless can be a very violent environment, I know I used to work in one.

Could you elaborate on what specifically you admire about him? |

I agree, but without any praise for Musk, the whole thing was just icky & the GBP probably despise the pair of them. When will Sunak get something right ? |

Is there nothing admirable in entrepreneurship Fields? Technical creativity, business savvy, providing a useful service? ![]() en.wikipedia.org "In 1995, Musk, his brother Kimbal, and Greg Kouri founded Zip2.[55][56] Errol Musk provided them with $28,000 in funding.[57] The company developed an Internet city guide with maps, directions, and yellow pages, and marketed it to newspapers.[58] They worked at a small rented office in Palo Alto,[59] with Musk coding the website every night.[59] Eventually, Zip2 obtained contracts with The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune.[49] The brothers persuaded the board of directors to abandon a merger with CitySearch;[60] however, Musk's attempts to become CEO were thwarted.[61] Compaq acquired Zip2 for $307 million in cash in February 1999,[62][63] and Musk received $22 million for his 7-percent share.[64]" |
