I'm sure all the Downing St comms guys who lied repeatedly throughout the Partygate shenanigans will make a clean breast of things now.

Big_G, the main thing I've been interested in is the early mistake of delaying the initial suppression including lockdown. This is squarely the fault of the scientists who were strongly advising against it at the time, right up to the 23rd March when they abruptly (and belatedly) changed their minds. It was mostly based on a simple miscalculation, they estimated the doubling time to be much slower than it was in reality, which meant the explosive increase was much more rapid and sudden than they expected.
The new testimony etc consists mostly of a lengthy written statement and (transcripted) live questioning for several of the main players and though I've given some of it a quick glance I haven't had time to check it carefully. And to be honest I'm not sure I have the energy either. But they have done their best to deflect and excuse from this, though for those of us who were jumping up and down at the time, it was clear enough.
I was hoping, naively, for a bit of introspection about how this little clique of experts managed to be so wrong, and so self-confident in their wrongness. It's a classic example of groupthink and motivated reasoning, they grabbed an initial estimate and clung on to it in the face not just of outsider criticism which they batted away, but also pretty solid evidence that they found arguments to dismiss.
It's disappointing when scientists behave like politicians, but we are all human after all.

Interesting, thanks. From the time I have a memory that I felt Johnson and Co didn’t want to lockdown, but I hadn’t realised the scientists were leading that so strongly.

I see Braverman has called folk marching/demonstrating against the ongoing genocide in Gaza as hate marchers, words fail me.

The report of the storming of the airport in Dagestan seeking out travellers from Tel Aviv was pretty shocking. I'm amazed that both anti-Semitism AND Islamaphobia are on the rise - I suppose just demonstrates that differences are heightened in times of war?

I'd expected Islamaphobia AND anti-Semetic behaviours to both increase markedly with the current situation. Why not HappyG?
