So we could afford billions for unfunded tax cuts, but we can't afford £15m to teach people about energy efficiency and so cut energy bills, thus saving the govt (and in the end the tax payers) money in the longer run.
Of course, a suspicious minds might suggest a PM and Chancellor in bed with the energy companies, probably with shares in those companies, would quite like to funnel as much public cash to them as possible.
After all, we know that they regularly beg for handouts and fund climate change denial, so corruption is fine too.
