Citizens advice (CAB) - which has been around since 1939 - and a lot of other charities actually receive a large percentage of funding through government awards (and EU when we were members). Part of their role is to support governments (be it Scottish, UK or local government) in gathering data on the effectiveness of social policy rollouts. For example - locally Scottish CABs gave data and information on EU settlement schemes in post Brexit arrangements.
While agree that some aspects of life charities support - eg food banks obvious example - should not be in existence in a civilised society, charities are vessels for community who want to donate time and effort gifting back. Even with the most benevolent of governments there will exist the destitute and the underclass who need support. Whether it’s to help them find or to access support which is actually available (which is a lot of what CAB actually do). To suggest their mere existence reflects in adequacy of government - is simplistic.

The 'inappropriate behaviour' at the Tory Conference intrigues me. Did he say something honest?

"Scotland's first minister has said she has still not had a phone call with Liz Truss more than a month after she became prime minister. Nicola Sturgeon told the BBC it was "absurd" and "unprecedented" that she had yet to hear from the new PM." Liz. Truss. Is. A. Disgrace.
Truss did say sturgeon was best ignored

I was against the Iraq War, Fields. Just as an FYI…
Is that position reconcilable with supporting the wars biggest cheerleader?

The Iraq war thing really pisses me off. Yes it was wrong and we knew it at the time but anyone who thinks a Tory PM (or anyone else basically) wouldn’t also have been in there with the warmongering needs to give their head a wobble.
I’m not comparing Blair to tories though, I’m comparing him to other members of the government and the party who did not support it - Robin Cook amongst others

Showed compassion towards the public.
I thought I read earlier he was denying the allegations but I think I'm now making up that latter part.

On Twitter he seemed to be saying he didn’t even know what the allegations were.

Ah yes.
I hope the party will be as quick to conduct their enquiry as they were to rush to judgement
There's MPs accused of all manner of things still serving the government. Got to wonder what he's accused of doing to be so quick to remove the whip in this instance only for him to flat out deny "whatever the complaint was about".

Guardian reporting something that happened at the hotel bar, while not reporting his tweet denial instead saying he didn't respond to a request for comment. Doesn't look like they believe him either.

Hopefully the public speculation will cease, given it must be very triggering for the victim
