Problem is he has power and likes attention, it's unlikely that he's going to let things just run smoothly in the background. It's why the sucking up is happening and the pardons as if you're in his bad books there's likely to be consequences.

I've been watching the news and wonder if someone can help me understand the inauguration ceremony - I've only seen President Musk a couple of times hanging around the back whilst someone else, maybe his dad, keeps talking about random stuff?

Ah well the ceasefire in Gaza definitely owes something to Trump. Biden could have brought it about sooner. Ending all military aid and sanctions would have brought them to heel. Instead he's let the macho oligarchy buddy act look like they've got a result and reap all the kudos.
