I have read on a number of occasions that the majority of remaining votes are in Pima and Maricopa, which are likely to be pretty favourable to Biden.

No disagreement with your analysis at all, assuming the figures of the 25000 uncounted are correct. Maybe there's just less point in making the "call" now. Still find it baffling that we can count 30m ballots in their entirey within 24 hours and individual states aren't organised in a way to get their results sorted over a week after polling day. |

14000 margin in Georgia, a second recount would be a waste of time (the first pretty much is). Who would pay for it? The state again?

Chris, it's a waste of time the first time, but wasting time is Trump's main aim at the moment.

One question I have overlooked is what happens to Pence? I *assume* he is smart enough to know that Trump will be evicted soon, and I *assume* Pence has presidential ambitions himself which could easily be derailed by the Donald should he decide to run in 2024. Pence must know that if he is up against Trump for the nomination there will be pallets of cans of worms opened as Trump goes for his jugular. Pence will *probably* lose because it strikes me he doesn't have the same levels of insane narcissistic intent as Trump. So I guess Pence has to see Trump out and also completely discredited (yes, I know...) leaving him to run in 2024. Don't see how he can knife Trump without knifing himself. Or perhaps I'm just not machiavellian enough. Strikes me that Pence is likely to come out on the losing end in most scenarios. |

I don't think Pence would be able to overcome the taunt that he was just Trump's whipping boy. Has he shown any evidence of having his own thoughts or approach? The Reps need to be either still in love with Trump (and therefore bring Trump back) or finding someone untainted by the Trump years. What happens in the next 18 months in terms of info coming out about the Trump administration may seal that?

You would think so, but 4 years of Trump still ended up with 70M votes. He can do more or less anything and the cult will still support him. All allegations are politically motivated. All evidence is fake. All attempts to discredit him are products of the Deep State.

Interesting points on Trump/Pence - I've already come across this article, which I sort of agree with and sort of don't agree with: "The attempt to harness Trumpism—without Trump, but with calculated, refined, and smarter political talent—is coming.” theatlantic.com It's coming yes. BUT - I think Trumpism and populism is inextricably linked to the cult of personality, the warts and all random-ness and ego. It is partly why Trump is popular as you say above, and Pence is less so. And people are going - what about Senator such and such and Congress man such and such??? And I'm like I've never heard of them and have they been on the Apprentice going "you're fired" or been predicted as a President on the Simpsons? No. And that's the thing. Reagan also - a movie star. I'm not saying you can't get a smarter/more dangerous movie star/TV star than Trump trying the same things, you can, but the article misses the point, you can't build a Trump clone by numbers and spare parts and remove the insane and stupid parts and hone down it to pure Trumpism. They're not surgical removable, they are as much of the appeal. Shit coalesces around them. And once he's gone, it won't quite be the same either. |

I think they will go a long time without finding a person who is such a shameless narcissist as Trump. His shamelessness, ignorance, arrested development and lack of self-reflection make him a one-off. Thank fuck. There may be people who have the same positions as him but I doubt they lack the single-minded vanity to carry it off.

Mike Pence is only 61 so could wait until 2036 for a crack at power...
