Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Wasn't it just for the tools to develop an app.? - and, yes, the irony of the word tools did not escape me.

Well let's spend another 900K on painting the PM's plane to rebrand it so that we have the British flag flying thru the skies - BJ's legacy.

Guess the British public love planes so will be money well spent.

AS for Trump and Johnson (who I think is Trump's secret cousin). Why is ag so important to Trump? Is it because ag helped propel Trump to victory in 2016? So BJ helps Trump to secure an ag deal with the UK, Trump's chances of winning increase and who knows what the back handers that are being given to BJ / DC

"why it is willing to hand over contracts to companies such as Serco rather than involving local public health systems from the outset. This is not a case of mistakes being made. Instead, the government’s contact tracing shambles suggests something more troubling: a disdain for evidence, an obsession with centralised control, and the privileging of private over public interests".

David McCoy is a professor of global public health and director of the Centre for Public Health at Queen Mary University of London.

Another absolute omni-shambles. Can you see a pattern emerging?

Leading with the same story, the Times says "ministers played down the setback" but it will "hamper efforts to lift social-distancing restrictions". It quotes Health Secretary Matt Hancock vowing to "join forces" with Apple and Google, but reports that Apple said it had "not been... consulted about the plan to work together".

Hey, I posted this in early May!

"I just have a bad feeling about this: "contracts for the boys", new coding/data requirements, secrecy everywhere and a govt that will evade and bullshit at every turn rather than accept responsibility. But I could be wrong and it will work like a dream. If only I hadn't had 30 years on IT projects telling me that this "feels" like it could be a debacle..."

Don't be so cynical JB, by Autumn 2022 we'll have a world beating tracking app.

The obvious question was asked by Fiona Bruce last night: "If we were pursuing both app options and the in-house option failed, why aren't we ready to go with option B?"

Answer: They were never pursuing option B.

Watched the 13th last night the documentary on the history of racial inequality in the USA, on Netflix (now available for free):

mirror.co.uk

Kind of essential watching really, the ending is deeply harrowing (a montage of a lot of the final moments of African Americans killed by police, all given with permission). The Donald Trump speeches in it are outrageous. But then so were Bill Clinton's prison policies - and he admits in his speeches shown in it he made things worse now. (As in worse than what the Republicans Reagan/Bush were already doing!) If you haven't already, simply watch it. It says more than any words here can.

Also anyone of any political persuasion needs to read this, on the "legal" theft of Black land from 1910 to the present day in America. It is a long, and deeply depressing article:

newyorker.com

Makes Brexit and coronavirus seem like relatively small beer. Both of these things will pass, but the struggle for equality has been going on for centuries.
