Well it's also the result of every economic analysis including the little that can be gleaned from the govt's own figures before they decided it was better to bury their heads in the sand and refuse to do any more impact assessments.

It's not a result. It's a forecast.

Any we all now how accurate they are and have been. Which is not very.

As it's impossible for all the financial forecasting tools used to model something that has never happened before. It's all guesswork.

Not that this will stop the doom-mongers, doom-mongering.

Did anyone see Ed Balls' travels in Euroland? I thought it was quite good.

But equally the "forecasts" of Brexit being good for us are equally guesswork, are they not Stander? You can't have it both ways (and both sides are equally guilty of this) - all crystall ball gazing is flawed, and the only risky strategy is one which departs from the norm. Risky could mean better outcomes, or worse outcomes. But the certainty is that the outcomes will not be the same as if the status quo had remained.

The interesting thing, WS, about that, was just how much infrastructure the EU has on its external land borders.

It's *one of* the most the most strongly secured external borders in the world. There's a reason why most people trying to get over it go via the sea and not via the land borders, either at Ceuta/Melilla, or via Turkey.

Obviously, if you've got such secure external borders keeping "undesirables" out, then you can afford to not have the same level of infrastructure imprisoning your own citizens when they want to visit the economically sound and relatively crime free countries within that external border.

I saw it WS and yes I enjoyed it a lot. Ed was surprisingly engaging, but he clearly couldn’t get his head round the kind of local or regional issues that get populists and racists elected, whether it’s fishing in the Netherlands or bullfighting and flamenco in Spain.

There aren't any forecasts of brexit being good for us. That's why the brexiters just shrug their shoulders, say "we don't need experts" and say that any amount of harm is worth it, while crossing their fingers and hoping that the harm is suffered by others

Larkim, you are absolutely correct - any forecast, either good or bad or mere conjecture because the same modelling flaws apply to both.

But 52% of the voting public made their choice. And they decided that we would be better out.

(Now cue, the same old arguments from the Remoaners in here about why they are wrong?)

No argument from me on that one Stander. All forecasts are wrong. But I think it's also fair to say that *most* economic forecasts point to Brexit being negative, whereas *some* point to a positive outcome.

But indeed the people voted, by a narrow margin. And then voted again in the GE. It doesn't mean they made a rational decision though, just that they made a decision.
