Just as the BBC requires balance, I'll tip the scales in this thread slightly in the other direction. Well chuffed. |

Stander, so you are confident that this government is competent and serious and has proper, worked out plans as to what needs to happen next? If so, what do you think those might be? Are they going to try to get some kind of deal going before the end of the year, in which case what do you think that deal will be? Or are they going to go out without a deal at the end of the year?

I very much doubt there will not be a full on trade concluded in time for the end of the transition period. I suspect there will be a series of mini deals trashed out by sector, or for the more important bits before then. However, I don't have a crystal ball and I don't work for the government department pushing this forwards. I do know that this country has built its position in the world over centuries through it's ability to trade with that world. I doubt that will change significantly in a matter of just a few months or years. |

From my learning of history, Britain built its position in the world through building ships for pirates, then exporting slaves and importing cotton. Is the government going to be able to subsidise the return of the shipbuilding, piracy, cotton and slave industries in order for us to be able to reclaim our place? |

It's not ships for pirates these days. Financial services are much easier way to rob people and now make up much of what we trade. What we have traded over the centuries may have changed, but the point remains true. |

roflcopters. this county is deliberately sabotaging its ability to trade with the world, entirely for the purpose of energising jingoistic xenophobic pensioners to vote tory.
