Chris - who would you like to see as next Labour leader?
I'm genuinely not sure who could win and lead them to a victory in 2024...

Another step towards Scottish independence. 55 SNP seats, a dysfunctional Westminster led by a serial liar, Brexit and (hopefully) a Scottish electorate less likely to be fooled by project fear 2.

I think if you're the Tory candidate for an ex-mining town in Northumberland, you probably don't turn up to the count with an acceptance speech already written.

For a traditional mining seat to have a 700 vote majority for Tories, and That’s with 3000 votes for Brexit party too.
As a word of caution about the NE seats there’s a few factors that spring to mind - investment in the area (Hitachi train plant in Newton Aycliffe) admittedly offset against the loss of jobs in other manufacturing companies locally, strong leave vote, perhaps a strong alienation against Corbyn due to perceived lack of patriotism which may make them a bit exceptional, as well as what I have heard about in the press about what may be framed as hostility to immigration.
I don’t know the area well, maybe those locally can tell me if my remarks on point. I do feel these traditional Labour seats are almost a different country from the Home Counties where I’ve spent the bulk of my life,

Chrisull post 15591 I said the same thing to my brother who’s a Lib Dem, I told him “chin up” - next election = different issues, different leaders.
I certainly hope not to be seen by the rest of the thread as crowing.

Hmm considered it Dvorak, but while the exact numbers may well vary a bit. I think it's very very likely that the general picture will be as exit poll has said. i.e. stonking win for Conservatives and in Scotland an even greater stonking win for SNP ( I would maybe suggest not quite the 55 seats but still large majority nearer the 55 than not).
