Don't worry with all those pensioners rushing back from spain and Portugal, the wealth they bring will more than offset any down turn in the economy just as long as they don't actually draw a state pension or use the NHS. Oh hang on....

"Looks like BJ has upped the ante by ending free movement on 31st October." Well this was pretty much what no deal meant isn't it. So no, not really. Btw, this means also means that no UK citizen has the right to work (at all) in the EU. A lot of jobs going to be lost. You can go on holiday, but for more than 30 days you'll need a visa. |

JDA - I've seen "government by campaigning" (also an effective way of describing what Trump is doing. That's all today was - it was a campaign announcement. It's not governing. And it was also meant to distract from the Times leak at the weekend about what a shitstorm no deal is going to be (by *this* government's own assessment - the thing about rogue ex-minister stuff is bollocks. The Times source has confirmed this was updated based on what the *current* government is doing). |

Waiting for Stander to tell us how much he wants the retirement age raised to 75: telegraph.co.uk I want work til I'm dead, yay say it again, I wanna work til I'm dead. Let's go back to Victorian times. And while we're at it, lets abolish weekends and put children down the mines again. And pay me in tokens that I can only spend down the company owner's shop. It's brilliant, we have government's own reports saying that there will be medicines shortages, the supply chain could break, most people I know have *already* started stockpiling food. I certainly will be. This is all self-inflicted. And for what? We have sovereignty over our own laws. (93% are our own -source bbc.co.uk and the ones that aren't are sensible things like the working time directive). We can't protect our own finishing waters as we only have 12 vessels to do it. If we wanted stricter controls on freedom of movement, we could have simply introduced it. ID cards, the works. But we chose not to. (And ID cards are a sensible idea, they protect the weakest, and if you say data, privacy - then get off the internet now). We want to put in limbo any current EU citizens who have come here after the March 29th. Now the Tories are suggesting raise the retirement til 75. And people still support this shit???? I mean, come on how stupid can people get? I don't think the no deal Brexiteers are racist. I just think they are imbeciles. Complete slavering, gibbering amoebas. It's like anti-vaxxers, after a while trying to argue and reason, you say, you know fucking what, let your families die of measles. I've passed the point of no return with these gimps. Sorry. |

not sure if the working time directive is a terrible or brilliant example: - its sensible enough as you say - terrible example because it doesnt really apply to us, we didnt like it so got an opt out for our citizens - brilliant example because it didnt really apply to us - we werent bullied in the EU, we got to just opt out of something our govt didnt like (When working time directive first came in I was told by my employer I had to sign the opt out form if I wanted to keep my job - not a lot of protection there with the UK's "opt" out). |

rf_fozzy, many EU countries have announced their plans to enable continued residency etc for UK citizens abroad. But it's a country by country system.

Jda - for existing enhabiting immigrants, yes. But not for new ones. And my point was regarding people *working* in the EU (eg service engineers) |

Chrisull, I'm happy for the retirement age to be raised to 75. I'll be retired long before that kicks in. |

Ah, you (rf_fozzy) mean people *only* working (and not also living). Yes, agreed. And even with the ad-hoc arrangements it's a huge shitshow for all sorts of people in different situations with problems applying for residency/nationality where they are. Stander, how many extra deaths due to medical shortages did you vote for in the referendum? |
