StuH, that's brexit in a nutshell. They are happy for others to lose jobs (even family members!). Spiteful hate is all they've got.

As someone who works for a pharmaceutical company, it is my understanding that no real concerns actually exist within the industry regarding shortages.

This will not however prevent the three main suppliers of drugs in this country from increasing their prices and using scare tactics such as shortages to justify that.

And on a less flippant note regarding retirement, (I knew someone would bite), it may sound boring, but I made some right choices at the right times during my career which will enable me to retire (possibly only part time) at 55.

I would however, have no issue with working until 75 if I had too. It is a fact that the UK population is growing older and living longer. The current pensionable age is just purely and simply unaffordable with the current retirement age.

Just because some 75 year olds can run marathons, doesn't mean they all can.

Being 75 doesn't necessarily equate to be old, frail or demented.

I saw Norman Wisdom do his stage show when he was in his 70's and the guy had more energy then than I ever had when I was at my peak marathon fitness.

So don't be writing off a whole generation just because of a number.

DeeGee - just because some 75 years old's do struggle more, doesn't mean they all do.

Stander, when you work in Healthcare, you know how important that number actually is.

75 Yr olds who are fit and in rude health are statistical outliers.

And, of course, currently, if they so wish, 68 year olds can defer their pension until they are ready to give up work.

I'm not writing off a whole generation, just making the reasonable observation that, on average, a boy born the year I was would, at the time of his birth, have been expected to be dead by age 75.

Life expectancy at birth for a boy born in 1975 was 69.

Since 1982 life expectancy has gone up by 6 years, whereas the state pension age has gone up by 10 for men and 15 for women.
