HQ never created tables of challenges.

They did most events and most inaugurals tables though.

True, though most inaugurals disappeared a long time ago didn't it? (I may be wrong!)

To be fair to the challenges community more generally, I don't think too many would have identified the challenges concepts in the late 200Xs and early 201Xs as being likely to cause troubles as the growth of parkrun might have been expected to slow.

Correct Larkim.
Inaugurals did disappear well before most events so HQ could slow down the attendance figures for the first event. Then they stopped announcing the week or two before.
Having huge numbers on the first event is more of a shock to the locals who use the area and live around there. They probably get spooked by the huge volume of people arriving suddenly.
Complaints to council become more likely.

Mr J
If I remember correctly, did you fall over into the mud at the inaugural Ally Pally parkrun? @Curly45

Am I mistaken?

Only ever done one inaugural parkrun, but yonks ago. It wasn't a guarded secret and they didn't mind people actually coming!

Met a charming fella who proclaimed that he sought inaugurals out and tended to win them.

Didn't win that one though.

The 2/11 cancellation of Battersea is almost certainly due to fireworks.

I've only done the one inaugural which was Sunny Hill. I'm not bothered about doing another. I had the opportunity to do Battersea but had plans to visit Dinton Pastures with a friend.

I’ve done 2. One they actively wanted folk, the other we were on holiday doing another race & contacted the team and they said to come along.
