" I reckon they will get rid of a few shirts; perhaps the J10, V25 and running 50 and replace them with armbands." I'd have no problems with that, if it was ALL t-shirts being replaced with armbands. They should just do it with the junior ones anyway, as the new sizing is awful for them. If they scrap V25's, but keep 100+, it will lead to more moaning about people not volunteering. "6,785,230 registered parkrunners, 4,030,282 have run at least 1 parkrun, but "only" 983,002 have run more than 10 times." & it's that smaller number that volunteers come from. They haven't done an annual report recently, but one from a few years ago showed that the area that needed to be worked on isn't the 'first parkrun' or even 'second parkrun', but keeping people engaged past that point & getting them to stick with it & onto double digits. |

To be fair, it is quite amazing that attending a free event gives a free T-Shirt in the first place. Amazing job keeping it going for this long.

On the subject of funding... New three year agreement with Brooks, which I'd not seen mention of elsewhere. athleticsweekly.com |

Bet they don't hold an "Activation Zone" at Cleethorpes.

"Brooks holding activation zones at a select number of parkrun events from this month where runners can test out shoes in the parkrun followed by a discussion with a running coach about their running style and potential best shoe choice." As long as they're done & out the way by 8:45, & they don't need to move any vehicles between then & 10:00... |

Here's an idea: parkrun 10 shirts for everyone. The wrinkle is that adults pay for them. Not full retail, something like cost plus £2. (£7-9?). Proceeds fund other milestone shirts. 50 parkruns is a long, long way for many (and ref above, most get nowhere near it)- this gives people the chance to have something to show for their early runs, and having literally "bought the t-shirt" they are incentivised to keep parkrunning. (Yes, there is apricot: for many (including me) pricy and unappealing.) |

Since people will literally be running parkrun in the "activation" shoes, they will not be done by 0845 nor gone before 10.

I meant the 'faffing', as in showing the shoes, getting them on & fitted etc.

A fairly uncontentious partnership though with Brooks? Not "the big bad" Nike, not as corporate as Adidas, not advocating some odd running approaches like Vibram etc. I know some people don't like any sponsorship activities impacting on parkrun, but in the real world money comes in to support free stuff like parkrun because it ticks boxes for the partner too, whether that's "just" social / community engagement, or "just" commercial opportunism, or somewhere in between. |
