I think we discussed this previously. It is I think to take away the shock of it arriving. Not everyone will be aware it is a thing and it could be quite alarming for some people receiving a cancer screening test out of the blue. I found that even now many people just aren’t comfortable talking about the disease. I had a few friends who admitted they didn’t like to ask how I was going on, partly because it felt intrusive or because they thought if I wasn’t doing well I might not want to discuss it

Two people I know - one family member, one an old friend - refuse to do poo-stick tests. (I blogged about em a couple of weeks ago) Neither has really stated a good reason why they don't want to do it. In retrospect I think one of them just doesn't want to think about it and the other one is just grossed out by poo.

I think sending a letter before your first poo test is a good idea. But after that it's definitely a waste of money to send further letters. McGoohan - I expect there's quite a few that don't do the tests and don't tell anyone. |

My best mate’s dad just hid them in a cupboard. His wife found them after he’d died… of bowel cancer

If pre-letters improve the uptake of screening it's all good.
