I agree with DQ. Also, diseases other than eye ones can be picked up in eye tests.
Said to my in laws a few years ago that they should go for eye tests for this reason alone, my MIL replied; “that’s exactly why we don’t go.”
Head in hands moment.

Just came home to find a letter from the eye clinic. Been recalled as the results of tests done in my annual visit last month suggest a change in my eye status.
I have glaucoma which, despite annual tests at the optician, developed so quickly in 2018, it resulted in some loss of peripheral vision in my right eye.
I must admit I'm a bit scared.
Get those eyes tested folks!

Everyone should have an eye test at least every 2 years to check eye health regardless of whether you need glasses or not.
That's exactly what the Optician told me this morning DQ. I'm now on a 2 yearly schedule for tests.
Happily they didn't identify any health issues with my eyes this morning, I just need a pair of reading glasses.

The thing is, two years goes by so quickly you feel like you've only just had the last test

I have mine done every year plus a diabetic eye screening every year. The diabetic one involves eye drops that sting a little then pics taken of the back of your eyes. Then involves coffee and cake whilst we wait for a taxi home as not allowed to drive for a few hours. Normally fine after the drops maybe at worst a bit like when you get out the swimming pool

An amusing moment with the opthalmo...whatever at the hospital yesterday. She was curious as to why I checked my blood pressure every month, despite having no history or family history of high blood pressure. My answer of, "so I can keep a check of it" (I deliberately avoided saying "keep an eye on it") didn't seem to satisfy her. I presume they're used to folks turning up with health conditions that they could potentially have avoided if they'd monitored themselves regularly, so it throws them when someone turns up who does actually check their health.

That's interesting V'rap. My Mum lost a lot of weight post-60 and now doesn't eat properly at all and I'm sure it's contributed to her frailty.

Sigh biggest issue is people not taking responsibility for their own health! I keep a close eye on mine and, dare I say it, tests and treatments. Just as well or I would not be sat here Fetching one day post chemo: prescription was wrong! They were about to OD me 😱😱😱

Linds my mum was the same: always weight obsessed, eating so little that she was malnourished for most of her life, descending rapidly into old age
