We largely stayed in tents and basic hostels, but we also stayed in some fabulous boutique hotels just as you got fedup roughing it. We had fabulous local food cooked for us and sleeping in a Bedouin tent in the Sahara desert after riding sand dunes was magical!

A couple of cycle tourists got killed in Tajikistan a few years back. Mind you, a couple of hikers also got killed in the Atlas mountains a few years ago. I did the cycling with Red Spokes, on a trip similar to this: redspokes.co.uk I thought Tajikistan was a very different experience to Morocco. |

I went to Uzbekistan in 1990 and it was fab. I loved it. Tashkent was a bit “big city” but Samarkand and Bukhara were glorious.
