I've had a rethink and realise my first 'proper' gig was to see Mungo Jerry at Batley Variety Club! Must have been around '78 or '79? I've been over to Batley earlier today. According to the locals nothing better has been on since I've been to Batley today too. Ikea is an amazing place.... (Ok, technically it's probably in Birstall!) |

I remember the Isle of Wight festival in 1970. Mainly because I was sleeping at my grandparents' home in Freshwater and could hear the drums late into the evening. I was only 9.... My eldest brother had a job there selling stuff. I assume it was legit, I ought to ask him one day! All the local residents were complaining that their milk was being stolen from the doorsteps. And the local supermarket started selling "imported" (from the mainland ) UHT milk in tetrapaks to cope with demand! |

Not been to many gigs/concerts as I never seemed to know how/where to get tickets until it was too late! Think I've been to 4: Spandau Ballet at Wembley Arena, Bryan Adams at Wembley Arena, Elton John & Eric Clapton at Wembley Stadium, and Dire Straits at Earls Court.

Have seen Bryan Adams many times - he is always good and tickets are normally very reasonable

Blimey, where to start. Knebworth 1990 featured McCartney, Floyd (probably approaching the end of track 1 just now), Quo, Tears for Fears... Deacon Blue, Billy Bragg, Cranberries, Belly, Sultans of Ping FC all before 1994. Special mention for Bob Dylan in Cardiff - awful. In one of 'those' moods, hiding at the back of the stage and being an arse. (First Aid Kit, by contrast, last winter in the same venue were amazing). Loads in between but more recently have enjoyed the Buzzcocks and the Undertones as they do 40th + anniversary tours... |

Paul Simon headlined at Cornbury Festival (Poshstock) in 2008 but he was just plain grumpy! He came on late, had no interaction with the crowd, but having said that he finished his set with Sounds of Silence, which under a starlit night was magical. KT Tunstall by contrast was brilliant. Her band had some tech problems which delayed her set so she was just encouraging everyone to sing along with her, acapella, during what was a very rainy afternoon. |

Oscar the Grouch the only gig I’ve been to and not enjoyed was Bob Dylan at St James Park, Newcastle in the early 80s. What a prat. Warm up bands Lindisfarne and Santana were excellent though.
