Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’ve not heard of it either, but I’m sure any NHS screening program is very worthwhile. I shall mention it to

Well mushroom, there is an alternative to getting older, but it's even less attractive (at least to me, currently)...

To be fair, unless you’re a medic or a bloke of 65+ there’s very little reaso for you to have heard of AAA screening

I think it's done in Scotland as well. healthscotland.scot

The first I knew of it was the invitation (ie appointment) from the local hospital.

The AAA scan is a once only screen. If you aren't showing signs at the age of 65, it is highly unlikely you will subsequently develop an AAA.

As far as I know I was not offered the AAA screen, but that would have been 11 years ago. Nonetheless, I understand from the NHS website that people who missed out at age 65 can still arrange to get it done. I am avoiding hospitals as far as possible at the moment on account of my non-trivial Covid risk, but will consider it after my booster jab scheduled for Thursday this week.
