I bought an avocado last week. Unusually, I also ate it. So ripe the stone fell out. It was dull, but harmless. I've bought another one this week. Part of it was spread on toast and topped with a fried egg. Now, as to fruit ... m.youtube.com |

"Dull" is how I'd describe avocados. I don't mind them but don't understand how they became so popular. There was avocado in my pre-race breakfast on Sunday. I am fairly sure I discovered on Monday what partially fermented avocado smells like. |

I eat loads of avocados - you have to get inventive when you have diet "restrictions". A favourite brekky hereabouts is soughdough toast, avocado, lean back bacon and GF black pudding.

I like avocadoes...preferably as guacamole which makes them a little more interesting to the taste buds. Dvorak - you're very lucky, I've rarely managed to buy a ripe avocado...they end up sitting on the counter until they've overripened or I just manage to eat it before it goes off (usually by pure fluke). |

Put 'em in the fridge. They don't go off as quickly.

They don't ripen much...I've been experimenting with them. They're so expensive now, I've stopped getting them recently.

I lolled at McG's 'altercation with a banana daiquiri'. I'm sorry, that's unsympathetic of me but c'mon McG, whatever made you think that would not end badly? You can buy bacon which is not treated with nitrites, according to a programme I saw on C4 this week, but IIRC (I wasn't really paying attention) it is only available in N. Ireland. |

To elaborate, we were at my sis-in-law's BBQ cum cocktail party. We were getting ready to leave - it was a short walk home and downhill. However, she hadn't yet started the cocktails, so insisted we stay. BDs were only one of the things produced but the very smell of a banana makes me want to hurl now. I'd already been mixing the grain and the grape. We left as soon as we could but as soon as we hit the street outside my legs disobeyed me, and I had to lean on Liebling all the way home. Fortunately we had understanding babysitters (Liebling and her sis's parents). |
