As things stand, I don't anticipate clearing up the trophies when I move up to F55-59 next year. That category is at least as competitive in my current one; we also have a very fast F60-64 on the patch. And that's before the fell runners roll down off the mountains and rip through the road races.

LD look forward to the next category then and you could be 'up there' again for a little while at least.
Well done Sharkie.

Sharkie - brilliant! 🏅 Being competitive and having an iffy knee is not a very good combination. Just glad I can now cope with a parkrun.

I often come first in age group in parkruns. First and last.

Thanks for the warm words of welcome from folk old and new (mainly old, given the thread). Good to catch-up, although even better to overtake!
My son - 31 - has just taken up running, having had to give up football because of a recurrent groin strain. He has NEVER (ever) shown any interest before. Perhaps this is 'because' of rather than 'despite' having dad that has been running since the lad was born. Anyway, he turns up to the parkrun and (being 31) beats me by about a minute.
I then had a little chat with him about the notion of Age Grading, something beloved by those on this thread. I let him explore the calculator and he entered each of our times, saw the results - and went very quiet for a minute or two.
Quick specific enquiry: HS, did you do the Hayling 10 in November? If so, how did it go?

Jb my son trained at 28yr old three years for London marathon - did it in 4hrs 40 seconds and never ran again. Mind you I only started 5 years ago and just completed my one and only marathon 2 weeks ago. I never bother with the WAVA and age stuff cause I know I'm not a fast runner or likely ever to win anything.

Never say never, Lip Gloss, and you don't have to be fast. I won my age cat in the Nottingham marathon a couple of years ago, despite coming 1,060th out of 1,193 in a not very impressive time of 5:13, and won £100! There was only one other woman in my age cat, and she came 1,192nd - yes, second to last, and she got £75-worth of vouchers.

I was once third to last in a race and the bloke behind me got a trophy as the winning V70!
