In addition we get cheaper rail tickets here. Living in the distant north of Scotland I make a lot of use of the periodic offers of £17 go anywhere return tickets. Helps in getting to races! I found Saga competitive for car insurance. But maybe they love my low risk profile (commute by running, live in the middle of nowhere, married with no kids). Driving too far makes my piriformis play up.

As an Old Person resident in Wales I get free bus travel all year round in Wales and for short distances outside it e.g. Hereford or Shrewsbury; and on trains in Wales during winter months.
