Welcome newbies and Happy birthday JR!
Glad to see you've got a BIG BUTTON phone by your bed Sigh.
When our leisure centres all joined together a few years ago I went to have a look at them and was shocked to see that one of them had communal changing area for the pool. I never knew they existed before that. (*I've led a sheltered life*)

Welcome, new oldsters
I've had a flurry of mailings from a garden centre offering me free hospitality, most recently tea and cream scones for two for my forthcoming fiftymumbleth birthday. I think I may have arrived. Saga sniffed around when I turned 50, but drifted off again.

*waves* to all newbies
Don't be fooled by Saga if you're looking for cheap deals on car or home insurance. My mum went with them for years until I did a quick search on t'internet and showed her that far from giving her a good deal because of her advanced age, she was being shafted. I suspect they rely on older people being non-internet savvy, though all insurers hope for inertia and people not shopping around

That's interesting LD because I use Saga and find them to be quite cheap. Every time I get a renewal quote I check around other insurers and the only cheaper ones I find have inferior insurance (higher excesses, more exclusions.......), so I stick with Saga. Besides, when I have to phone about anything they speak to you rather than reading from a script.

When I turned 50 a long time ago, my oldest friend bought me a subscription to the Saga magazine.

It is *always* worth checking on comparison sites for insurance quotes. As it happens I've never seen a quote from Saga at the top.
Incidentally, on a technical financial point, higher excesses are usually a good idea if you want to save money.
Welcome TRO.

Thank you for the kind wishes. I feel I belong here already. Looking forward to checking my new GFA / WAVA times (Boston.. one day I will make it). I am truly bedazzled at the range of sarcastic humour in 50th Birthday cards.
Awaits marketing emails from SAGA, Health insurance and requests to go for new and interesting medical tests.

Welcome to all the new ones
I found Saga to be cheap for car insurance for one year. After that, they ramped the premium right up so I went elsewhere.
I recently celebrated my 55th birthday and have since receiving marketing bumph for new, local 'assisted living apartments', for which I am now eligible apparently!
