Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Happy, I can categorically say that wearing earplugs today stopped me from getting dizzy. The water was as cold as Tuesday evening, if not colder, and I swam just as much but manegd to stay on my feet when I got out of the lake.

90 minutes in butermere lake today with some like minded follk, across the lake and back a couple of times with a bit of time swimming up and down the middle of the lake to just to take in the stunning mountains and waterfalls in full flow . The water was a beautiful clear cold , bluey green , the reflections of the mountains only broken by the rain bouncing of the surface. another magical day out . :-)

no hat, no goggles,no ear plugs but i kept the wetsuit on for now . 10 degrees 51F or near. A couple of degrees warmer would make all the difference. I'll be back there soon.

I swam in Mallorca about 4 weeks ago, just my trunks and goggles, wish I took my wetsuit! it was bloody cold! I swam out to a buoy about 200m out and back (my own calcs!!) it was cold but ok, one wave crashed over the top of me and I swallowed a bit of sea water, which panicked me a bit, I stop for a couple of seconds and carried on. All in all it was a good swim, but the cold without the still virgin wetsuit put me off. Ellerton Lake when I get home from offshore next week, hopefully get a few in before the 5th June! lube and earplugs are sounding like a must, add them to the shopping list of stuff I still have to buy!

The tri training day at Dorney yesterday was excellent. The OW swim session was just what I needed. there was a proper warm-up before hand and acclimatisation tips, and when I got swimming, there was none of the breathing problems I had last week. We also did a simulated mass start (with about 35 of us) which was quite an experience! I'll keep well back and out of the way for my open water tris. I got carried along too fast and was then knackered, and it was only a couple of hundred metres!! Good though - I'm looking forward to the tri at Dorney Wednesday evening.

good going Nick.

I have had to invest in a pair of neoprene socks as I have found that I am losing feeling in my toes in the cold water at the moment which is forcing me to get out after about 15 minutes and my toes go white and take an age to warm up again which is not pleasant

I am now well on the way to getting rid of my fear of open water. We went to Ellerton lake last night where there is a 500 metre course marked out with buoys with the furthest buoy right in the middle of the lake.

Last night was the first time that I built up the nerve to attempt to swim round the full lap and I managed it without any fear or panic
