I'm the same weight as you spacehopper (but an inch shorter:)). Sounds like size 8 then.

I've got Orca Equip glad i tried it on as not all sizes fit as you might think we are all different shapes.
For example Fat Jase who is an ex Rugby player has had problems with 2XUs as his shoulders are broad I believe something like Blue Seventy or Sailfish would be better.
There are lots of good reviews in 220 etc

Have been lurking on here for a few days.
Need to crack this OW swimming thing. I did the London Tri last year with not enough OW practice, panicked and ended up swimming 1500 metres of breast stroke and feeling like an idiot. Have entered again (I will not be beaten!) and am also doing the Great London Swim and Hyde Park.
Haven't yet dipped my toe in any murky waters this year - Fairlop had to cancel their session due to algae last Saturday. Hope it's gone by next week. Then I have a 3 week swimfortri course at the Serpentine.
Anyway, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who hasn't taken to it like a to water.
There's hope for me yet.

I've heard nothing but good about them and I thought £50 for 3 coached 90 min sessions seemed reasonable. Good to hear another recommendation (especially from an experienced tri dude)
RG Active run the sessions at Fairlop and Max71 said they were good too so I'll give them a go too next Saturday.

Ha! Not sure I'm ready to tag a bike on the end yet but give me a few weeks and who knows....Fairlop back to SE London, no problem. I'm trying to persuade Max to come with me next week. She's still calling it her nemesis
I was gutted they stopped the Wednesday sessions too - they would have been perfect for after work. I can't always get to the Saturday sessions cos of work. I assume you'll be doing the earlier just swim sessions at Fairlop.
I think it's Keeley that does the Serpentine coached class. My general technique needs work too, I know, but will concentrate on getting comfortable in OW this year.

i wouldn't worry too much BmcS, i thnk it happens to us all. i've been OW swimming for a couple of years now but even last year after 1 years OW experience i had a terrible swim in a triathlon and i also had to swim breastroke but with my head out of the water! for some reason i just completely lost it and couldn't breathe every time i tried to put my head under. thankfully it hasn't happened again, but it's not the end of the world if it does happen, i learnt alot from that bad experience.
enjoy your OW swim course, i'm sure you'll feel loads more confident after you've done that : - )

You can just turn up on the day for the swimfortri serpentine sessions but I think it is more cost effective to buy a block if you plan on doing a few...plus easier not to remember the cash.
I did the RGActive training race at Ham last weekend ..maybe a bit far if you are close to fairlop but good open water race practice without the pressure.
