I would definitely go to 20 and up to 22 if you can. it is possible to do it with going only up to 18 but it will be easier on the day if you try to run a bit more during your training.

Hmmm, I've done 2 20 milers, 1 22 miler and this weekend and next I will be doing 24 miles, but then again I'm far from a conformist

Hey, you first timers at NY, forgive me being a butinski, but I ran it in 2005, where we got an unusual 22degrees, which suited me... The norm is 11 to 17 degrees. Try to run your long runs slow enuf so that you are on your feet for the same time as you might be for the 26.2 at NY. Also, try to prepare yourself for the long gradual slopes up onto the big bridges. Otherwise, the atmosphere is second to none, and you'll get carried along by the supprt alone. Also, be careful not to accept gels en route that you're not used to, as many of our gang threw them right back up again..may be better to stilck to water and sweets on offer.

24 miles Boab?? That's a bit long for me... I stick to 22 or 23 in training but that's probably because I'm lazy.
Cheers for the input Ged - everyone talks about these long slopes up to the bridges, are they particularly steep and nasty climbs?

Not yet CM, I get more excited! Never been to NY before so it's a big adventure for us! Could do with a fast forward button though, so I don't have to live in fear of injury as it's doing my head in at the moment!

I get a knot in my stomach just reading this thread! So maybe I will add on the four miles then at the kingston festival!! Being a spectator there was great but now actually taking part makes me both really excited and nervous all at the same time. Counting the days - kind of!!!!
