We're thinking of taking a bus tour or the 3 hour ferry ride around manhattan taking in the sites. Very much looking forward to the marathon. This race is going to be my saving grace after some pretty awful performances this year, this one is defo getting pulled out the bag!!!
Aye 24 miles, twice, Yaz. Not built for distance, so want to make sure I can do it

On my marathon build ups.. completed nine now.. NY was no 7., I have sometimes run maybe 16 miles, 4 the following day, and 6 the next, just to get the distance in over 3 days..you'll be surprised how well the psychology works. Can't remember the site, but I'm sure there is a profile somewhere of the route. Will try to find it for you. Sometimes there is a long medium to steep hump, maybe 3/4 mile up to the bridges.. can be tiring towards the end. I set myself a 4 hour target, but since I'd only ever run 4.12 b4, that was a bit optomistic, as NY aint the easiest of courses and not a pb route. I ended up being drawn into the whole social event, and walked thru the bronx, chatting to the spectators. loved it, and to hell with my time of 4.43.. what a great time and great people. Enjoy! Tell you what tho, I couldn't for the life of me get the jewish quarter to 'oggy' with me. lol.. complete silence replies.. think they thought I was mad...

Hey, while I think on, we found a great Irish bar at the back of times square somewhere after the marathon night meal, where half a dozen of us drank guinness (Hey, btw, tradition is to wear the medal for a day after the race in NY). New yorkers love it, and show much respect.) till 4 in the morning when we had sort had enuf, and was linked to the idea of us arranging to meet at the Empire States top at 9 on the Monday morning... Great idea, and we did it, till you see the horrendous ques to get up there (count on a 2 hour wait, and I was the only one fit enuf to run the last 7? floors was it) up to the top, otherwise you have to que again for the second lift. I seem to recall when you think you're at the front of the que downstairs, you're led into another hall with ques the same again, and then ditto.. doh! The day b4, we did expo, ground zero (Talk to the guys at the fire station there, and make a donation, buy a t-shirt, or something), and the staton island ferry, after I was the only idiot to run the comrades 10k on the saturday morning b4 the marathon.. a good experience, but may have contributed to me being more sociable than competitive on the race.

I was advised not to go up the statue of liberty, cos the ques are too long, and it takes too long. I seem to recall buying a book called something like, NY for brits, which has a lot of good, freebe advice in, and tips when to go to places.

So aren't any of you going to watch the US men's Olympic marathon trial the day before? I believe it is mainly in Central Park. Also any doing the friendship run? Think it's only a mile and a half.
I've been sick for a week so missed my long run on the weekend. I have done a couple of 20 milers, maybe fit another one in before the big day, but not this weekend - got to get on top of things.
Good running everyone.

I'm going over with a charity so I'm guessing they have some kind of programme lined up for us. Would quite like to do the friendship run on the Sat morning if only to shake the legs out from a seven hour flight the day before.
And yes, quite fancy catching a bit of the Olympic Men's Trial - if only to shake my head and discuss once again how impossible it is to run at that pace for 26.2 miles....

We might try to catch some of that as well.
We are going to the Top of The Rockefeller building, possibly Friday pm, and looking at one of the bus tour things for the Saturday, along with Toys R us etc, for LMG!
