Anyway... running and marathons aside, on to the important stuff!! Buff Daddy, do you know the best places in NY for cheap trainers, clothes, electricals etc? I need a new Ipod and I could always do with a shiny new pair of trainers or too....!

I am running for Breast Cancer Campaign and think they have something the night before. Macys basement for lunch is always a good bet (last time I went). Like the idea of a sit down on a boat or open top bus on the Saturday - would love to meet up with some of you so maybe we can exchange where we might be on the days before..........and being Irish, I love the idea of the Irish Bar!!! Yazoo: Believe it or not, the marathon expo can be a good spot for bargains on footwear, and other running kit (it's one of the bigger expos you will find for a marathon). Super Runner Shop has several locations in New York ( http://www.superrunnersshop.com/locations.htm) . To be honest, I don't shop for that sort of thing too much in NYC (I live an hour south near Philadelphia). In fact I buy most of my running kit online these days. There are quite a few running shops in NYC, and most of them will have booths at the expo. As for electronics, I know there are a ton of shops around times square, but be wary of conterfeit stuff.

Here's my nomination for the most bizzare training "injury" : I'm training to do a 75-mile charity bike ride for the MS society. The ride is next weekend (29 September) I'm doing my final 60-mile ride on Sunday (after an 18 mile run on Saturday). About 15 miles into the ride, I feel a sharp pain on the forehead, under my bike helmet. A hornet has decided to take temporary residence there, and a rude guest he was as he stung me on the forehead. I managed to ride another 2 hours before the swelling got too extreme (started to swell my eyes shut). So to the doctor I went for massive doses of anti-histamines. The weird thing about it is, the air holes in my bike helment are quite thin, yet this thing managed to get in there and do his dirty work....oh well live and learn. I have duct tape over the air holes now. And as long as my legs are OK, I can live with the "frankenstein" look for now.

The day before last years race I went on the boat tour, fantastic views of NY and three hours off of your feet. Get an early sailing or the queues will be huge. Wish I was going this year, great city, great race.

run free
Talking of injuries......recently I've been getting a right hand stitch on my training runs. I've not had a stitch for such a long time. I start feeling a tightening on the right side and then the more I run the worst it gets. Have read stuff on runnersworld and from google searches but it ain't making sense to me. Should I be concerned?.....one month more argh!

Am definitely fit, ran 20 miles 3 weeks ago without any problems - and play sport at least 3 times a week; don't eat anything for 2 hours before I play sport and have not changed my breathing patterns.

Run Free - I regularly get a stitch on my left side, mainly on hard or very long runs. The middle 7 or 8 miles of my last half marathon were pretty tough. Can't offer any answers on prevention but when it happens I try pressing on the area and breathing out hard as my left leg hits the ground (in your case right leg.) I read it somewhere ages ago, probably in RW... Doesn't get rid of it completely but does seem to help a bit for a short while...

I think I'll be in NY this time in 5 weeks? It really is getting very close now...

I picked up the free magazine in John Lewis yesterday, and was elated to discover they've got a section on New York by insiders. There's some quite quirky stuff in there. I like the New York guide on the Telegraph's website as well. It was only updated in July so should be current.

I do fancy watching the Olympic trials, but I'm not sure I'll be able to convince my supporters and fellow runner.

My first 20 miler for NY is Sunday. I'm not looking forward to it at all!
