NZC - I am going to do the same and take my chances with what's there. I think I'll buy some of the sachets of normal Gatorade and take them on a few training runs to get used to it. I think Buff Daddy's advice is good in that if it's too concentrated to dilute it with a cup of water. That said I managed to get through Paris in 30 degrees with just water and gels so the sports drinks are a bit of a bonus.
Buff Daddy - are the cups the Gatorade comes in the small plastic ones?
Yep, it's starting to get a bit exciting.

The Gatorade and water are usually in paper cups around 12 to 16 ounces, IIRC. The gatorade will be in green (with logo), can't remember what the water cups looked like (white maybe?). I think at each water station (left and right sides of the road) it's water first then Gatorade.

Yep... cups of water and Gatorade. Normally the Lemon Lime endurance formula stuff. It's a LOT easier to stomach that Lucozade Sport, IMHO. Water was Poland Spring. Lots and lots of both.
I think this is a better setup than FLM, where bottles of Vittel become a safety hazard

We found the Gatorade ok. If in doubt, maybe consider collecting both a cup of water and one of Gatorade, then you have the choice of taking the taste away with a slug of water, if you need to.

Been taking a look at possible things to do in NY with LMG( neatly 6), quite fancy going to the 'Top of The Rock' as it isn't far to walk ( i think) from our hotel on west 48th street
Just wondering, those who have been or in the know, is it worth me booking in advance, maybe before leaving the UK? or just turn up on the day we want to visit?
I know it's a bit early, but i'm excited and am gettign into holiday planning mood, and it's only 78 days to go!!!!!

Never heard of 'Top of the Rock', Girlie.
I would recommend spending time just ambling around Central Park - so much random stuff to see - it's ace. Museum Mile on the East side of CP is great - Guggenheim museam is well worth a visit, as is the Met. If you like shopping then Fifth Av is good. Also wonder round Soho and you'll stumble across some neat little places.

It's the top of the Rockefeller building on 50th street. Sounds well cool, and from what i've heard less likely to be as busy as the Empire State ( Girlie now expects the world and his wife to be there when she visits!!!) Think WW and LMG will be spending some of marathon day at the zoo in Central Park, as it is close to the finish.
I', also after recommendations wher eto buy the tackiest gifts from, I want to get my mates something lurid!

There's lots of lurid stuff to buy!!
I would recommend Empire State, but that's mainly because when I was in NYC for a couple of months in 2002, one of my mates got hold of a priority card which meant we didn't have to queue.

Girlie: it's a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scneario with tickets for Top of the Rock. The advantage to pre-purchase is that it will minimize the amount of time you are on your feet waiting in line (assuming you will be doing this before the marathon). The disadvantage is if the day you book has a low cloud cover and the view is not so good.
I have done the Top of the Rock in Winter on a clear day, and the view is amazing.
As mentioned by others, there are tons of other things to see and do should this not work out. Not sure if they are sold in the UK (I would hope they are), but the NFT (not for tourist) book on NYC is a great resource (has transit, dining, and entertainment info for all of Manhattan (and to a lesser degree, the other boroughs).

Paper Cups!!!! I hate drinking from cups, they are a nightmare, you usually end up wearing most of it's contents and choking on the rest......
