of dubious value!

When it works it seems accurate, but to get it to work reliably during exercise I have to have the strap very tight - maybe that's down to me being a hairy sweaty monster! Other people have said it works for them. I much prefer, and still use, the HRM-RUN2 as it is far more reliable and gives you the running dynamics data to geek over :)

The main reason I wanted it was for 24x7 HR monitoring, specifically for calorie burn for activity which I don't log as an activity, eg. a walk or vigorous hoovering! However I'm not convinced that the Garmin activity tracking (fully, if at all) takes this into account when calculating calorie burn - I get very little difference between a lazy day on the sofa and a manic day. I need to do some tests around this, but not got around to doing so yet.

I get great results from a Scosche Rhythm+ optical HRM, but that goes further up the arm and has a strap with a bit of stretch in it. I'm not surprised if it doesn't work so well right down on the wrist.
Only downside with the chest straps is I have to cover myself in micropore tape for long runs if I don't want to be bleeding when I get back. No accuracy issues, either - I did manage to make a strap the generation before the HRM-RUN flip out the other day by wearing it under a bamboo shirt in a very strong, cold, wind. The HR was reporting flicking from 80bpm to 220 and back in a matter of seconds. This is the only time in about a decade of using Garmin chest straps that I've had this happen.

Yeah, that's meant to be the best optical one by far.

I used to hate the older Garmin straps. They used to chafe and be unreliable, especially under specific tops in specific weather conditions. The new ones seem a lot better.

Do you have one of the HRM-RUNs with the red casing? I have the generation before (with the brownish banding across the front of the strap), which is more comfortable than older ones, but still chafes.

yes, and I think I had the same one as you mention previously, assuming that it the one that initially shipped with the F3 and had the first generation running dynamics in it.

The strap on the new one is far softer / less rigid.

I've had the F3HR for a few months now and find the HR very good. Very occasionally it has read wrong but that's due to it being too loose on my wrist. When it is snug (bit not tight or uncomfortable) I get good results. Much prefer this to the chest strap.

Disappointingly my HR readings are all over the place on my Fenix 3 HR, just no confidence it will give the right reading. Guess I'm going to have to buy the HR strap, any others found this?
