to get even reasonable readings while training I find I need to have it really quite tight and (as the manual says) quite high up the wrist. I don't use the optical for exercise and generally stick with the HRM. IMO the benefit of the optical is for lifestyle tracking, but I don;t think the device yet makes good use of it for this.

I have purchased the HR Run strap, and very impressed I have to say, no dodgy readings for 3 weeks now, comfy and very reliable.

Picking up a year-old conversation on the previous page about the latest Garmin chest straps (red module which can't be removed from the strap) - this is without doubt the most comfortable chest strap I've ever used. Last weekend I had it on for four hours continuously, spent the middle two hours of that running a half marathon, and no chafing whatsoever, though I did nothing to protect my skin. Older straps I'd have been bleeding by then.

Howdy Fenixers, I currently have a 235 but sadly it’s not lasting long enough for my marathons (both I’ve done have been slow due to injury by myself/running buddy) so I’m thinking of upgrading to the Fenix (read any excuse)
Those of you in the know is it worth the money? I know there is a 5S for us smaller wristed types but there is a significant difference in the battery life. I do hope to smash a sub 6 mara on my next effort but you just never know it seems. Thanking you in advance. gg

5S should be good for 14 hours... It's still not *tiny* though. Same size as a 735 or Vivoactive3, although heavier than either. Much, b=much lighter than a Seiko SKX007 mind*.
*This isn't as random as it sounds. I was uber-casual at work today so wore the Seiko. The Fenix 5S now suddenly seems featherweight.

5S should be good for 20 hrs, the bigger ones will do 14.
However unless you’re u want a small one I’d get a 3HR for a fraction of the price. It’ll still do all you need it to.

...provided there's nothing you want that requires the newer versions of ConnectIQ, which the 5 series support and the 3 series don't (not enough RAM or CPU power).
Any of them will be more than enough for a 6-7 hour marathon. I've done over 9 hours of walking in the last couple of days, an hour or so of non-GPS stuff, plus two and a half days of stand by since the charge, and there's still more than a third of the battery left.

Thanks all I am also trying to future proof I am aiming to do a 24hr relay next year or year after... my concern is the 235 should do 11hrs 2 and a bit years in its only managing 5.5hrs.
I can update my 235 with garmin for £85 but old then have to commit to it for another few years (& I like the fenix not least as I think it would help with my renewed goal of without hours as it apparently works with more sport than the 235)
The 3 is not much cheaper on Amazon and most others don’t seem to have it, is there any other stockists you know of?
Appreciate all thoughts and advice so thank you.
