I suspect when I stop working my oblong consumption will go back down to the theoretical ideal of "occasionally, in an emergency" rather than "15-20 a week".

Beanie, of course you could. You need a good knife and a knee-kicker helps a lot. The hardest part (unless you are doing stairs), especially turning stairs) is moving all the furniture out of the way.
