Unless you opt for a chemical approach - though that’s obviously not ideal

I shall try the white vinegar on ivy treatment; but not today, it's too windy. Hope all others making the same trial will report back.

We had a lot of convolvulus in the previous garden. None in this. Couch grass instead.

Evening all. We've been advised to remove some lower branches from some small oak trees to help them grow up & bush out. How close to the trunk should we cut & when, and do the cuts need treating? They are about 3" diameter.

The best time to remove branches is late January-February, but April, May or June when there is a lot of growth and sap rising.
Cut the branches back close to the trunk.
Current thinking is not to treat the cuts as they will heal over naturally.

First courgettes, they were small (that's my 4 year old holding them) but were yummy.

Blimey. I haven't even started courgette seeds yet.

We did ours too early, they started flowering before we got them out. Will have more next week maybe.

Lat year I sowed some poached egg plant seeds in modules, and among others I planted out 3 blocks of three in this border. By a mix of neglect and design this year the border looks like this from the self seeding:

Probably can't see in the picture but it's full of pollinators :)
