Last night's frost seems to have polished off the remaining flower heads! All drooping and scorched looking. Roll on Spring!

My outdoor self seeded tomatoes have finally gone to mush. I picked off the last ripe ones earlier in the week 😱😱😱

I've dug up the parsnips today. I was thinking they might be full of grubs so needed to check they are ok for Christmas dinner.

All grub-free :)
The big one is pretty big

That is one enormous parsnip 👍
...reminds me of a childhood story I think I liked... either that or it was the only story read to me🤔 .."The Enormous Turnip" seem to remember an entire family trying to pull it up including a field mouse?? 😂

We've still got an original copy of the Ladybird book telling the story of The Enormous Turnip. It's quite tatty now, but I think it's older than I am!

The 10 days of frosts did their work. Cabbage, carrots and Pak Choi doing well....

I thought of The Enormous Turnip story when we dug up this whopper :)
Carrots and sprouts didn't make it through the summer, due to brassica eating bugs and going on holiday in a drought so the carrots were only big enough for a doll's house kitchen (the same as the parsnips that I sowed in the early summer).

Boffin - my children had The Enormous Turnip. You're right about the mouse. It isn't until the mouse finally adds his modicum of strength (to the two adults, the two chidren, the dog and the cat) that they finally get the turnip out of the ground.
