Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm intrigued, Hann. Do you have a plan of moon phases against types of planting?

I do Marky! And to make it easy, I just buy a booklet each year as I cannot be bothered to look into these things myself. So it gives the date, esoteric symbols and it says root day until midday for example, the say fruit in the afternoon. So harvesting fruit for keeping for example, on a fruit day, stores much better.

I must look into that, Hanneke.

The only superstition-surprise I remember encountering was when I read that if you sow parsley seed on Good Friday it will germinate much quicker than it normally does. The reason? Parsley seed goes "nine times to the devil and back" before it germinates, which is why it (normally) takes so long. On Good Friday the devil has no power, so the parsley is not held back and can germinate promptly. I tried it. It worked!

I've also got a pot of supermarket parsley flourishing in the garden! Although I did repot it into a much larger terracotta pot. And I think I might put some fleece or something as round it to see through the winter.

Currently still have rudbeckia, begonias and geraniums flowering in the garden. Plus the odd bit of antirrhinum, fuchsia and campanula.

(Forecast sub-zero this week coming - I suspect this will do for the begonias.)

Indeed. Antirrhinum out. Sage. Roses. Anemone (still). Cosmos. Frost here too. About time.
