SG, it's because of an overbite rather than missing teeth. The splint allows a bite with proper jaw alignment hopefully, allowing a more relaxed jaw, less clenching etc. It was only £40 so I'll see if it helps before looking for a more professional version. SQ, surely there's no such thing as an 'easy' 5am run! My PB for IM is 9:48. The bike course was long, so was transition so that's about 10 minutes. The other 39 minutes will have to come from faster cycling and running! Some of that will be free by just being more aero and wearing carbon shoes. So in a perfect world, it might just be a case of finding about 30 minutes or less in actual physical performance improvement. I struggled in the marathon to a 3:29 and I should really be sub 3:15 with my standalone time. Anyway that's all conjecture and just a stretch target. Actually did my biggest running week in a long time with 34 miles last week. I am now running in Addidas SL 2 having worn through the Pumas I was using. Also upgraded my Fenix 3 Garmin for a Fenix 7. I cracked the screen on my 3 a few months ago so I was due a new one. I wore it to bed last night to get a resting heart rate reading and I was surprised to see it drop to 39. I am sure that's not even close to Ric levels but seems low to me :-). |

Having had a load of teeth stuff Reggie I wish you well. SQ - I hear "track mode" sorts some problems out, but not sure my watch has such a thing. So it has to be a mix of feel and adding to the average pace. So if you're aiming at 7 pace, 7.00 on the watch isn't good enough, make sure it's 6.45-6.50 sort of thing. I think i'll always prefer the set distance / pace / properly taken splits, but the minutes sessions do provide a nice variation. Especially these current longer reps with floats or jogs in there, as bar occasional building back ones testing the water with say 1 or 2min hard then jogs I'll never do such things. |

Sunday was a 730ish sort of pace 13. Had come on a bit sniffy and sneezy half way through Saturday, but probably just one of my few times a year slight allergy / dust sort of things that's gone the next day. 730s felt quite comfy. 6&4 today. Club are doing 12x400 off 45secs tomorrow which I'm sure will be giggles, but round a grassy route with bends I can't see the reps being satisfying times. And would have to hang on until the evening. So think I'll at least try and rebed a tempo in. Not sure how long yet, but try and get that HM +15-20secs sort of zone up and running again. |

Delayed the return of the tempo last week to go my club session, but didn't see the point of a 12x400 off 45secs on grass with tight turns this week, so it was time to re-introduce the tempo. Never particularly look forward to them, as reps are always easier for me, probably with the footy background. Work hard - stop - work hard etc Anyway, told myself I'll aim for 4m, maybe 5m when I knew 6m is the distance really. But went fairly well. 6.20 average for 6miles, no outlier miles, very consistent indeed. |

All sounds nice and easy Reggie SG - I'd never substitute a 12 x 400 for a tempo, saying that I do need to do one soon, despite how horrible they are. Saturday - went up to the rearranged national as Ollie was running. Very nice course, firm but the grass was a tiny bit long. Sunday - Eastern masters final. Only a 1500/800/3000 & 4 x 100 this year. Won the V50 age group in each race with 4.22/2.13/9.33. Tiring day but we came 2nd to MK again with a depleted team. 7.5 yesterday and Luton tonight. Trying to do each Tuesday as it worked for the masters 5k final last year. Ultimately a bit pointless seeing how well the new V50's are going (15.19 at Battersea Friday night for Chris Greenwood of Kent) |

SC - good collection of times for one day there! SG - solid tempo, and good general training. Reg - hopefully I'll see you at some of the XC then. I'm hoping to turn out for quite a few, though I'll probably run them very controlled in the beginning to see if I can ease my way back towards more intense stuff. I'd love to do an IM but being a non-swimmer is a bit of a hindrance. SQ - big BAC session but looks well executed! I'm always impressed by your training discipline. Big few days here. Dropped Jr off to uni on Saturday, and our first grandchild arrived yesterday. Been managing some running, which is starting to feel much better, but still not quite feeling 100% right. Significant improvements on the new meds though, so hopefully that continues to help and time makes it 'feel' right. I'm hopeful that getting some xc races in and easing up the intensity across the series fixes whatever is not quite up to speed yet. |

Nice tempo run SG. Good end to the track season there, casually winning all the V50s. 15:19 for a v50 is impressive, I still harbour ambitions to run a sub 16 so it's comforting to know you don't have to be the best around to achieve it! Congrats Grampa TT glad you're getting some running done. When I signed up for my first IM I couldn't swim properly. Come race day I hadn't even swum a mile however and only swum open water once! Predictably I finished the swim about 2100/2300. Once that was over I spend the rest of the day overtaking people so it was quite an enjoyable experience! |

Cheers TT - Hope the recovery gathers pace, sounds promising Reggie - Yes you can do it - I did 15.52 in December, you just need the consistency. 8 x 800 last night on the paths. something like 2.32/29/31/28/31/27/28/26. Session better than I thought it would be. No sessions now as Southern road relays at Aldershot on Saturday. Great event, looking forward to it. |

Congrats, TT. Surely fastest grandparent around. Good luck with the road relays, SC. Straight in with a 6M tempo is big, SG. In good nick. Good point about track mode. Haven’t tried it myself, but teh GPS trace from those who do looks nigh on perfect. Good to see a bigger running week, Reg. @Forrest Jooligan MIA. Hope all ok? Easy Monday and Tuesday, 8:35s or so for 7 and 6ish. Eighth BAC last night: 25 mins (6:43), 5 x 4 faster (6:13), 25 MP (6:44). Three min jogs after and before the MP, two mins after the faster. Incredible how these come out sub 8 without any effort. Nice to run in sunlight rather than the recent early morning mist, although got a bit too toasty round the industrial loop and sought some shade by the river for a bit. Slightly cooked with ten minutes to go, but held on well enough. With an extra warm up mile off watch, it came in similar to last week 15.2M 6:57 pace. Might squeeze in an easy pace long run tomorrow, so Sunday’s MT race will most definitely be C grade territory. Might cost a pot depending on who shows, but got to think of the bigger picture. |
