Just an input on Topo, have had a very good experience in their Specter show, which is positioned as a performance trainer. That particular model isn't minimal though (5mm drop but high-ish stack). Toe box is fantastic though. I still love Altra and consider them my favourite brand, but if you've got any concerns on toebox on Altra models starting to get a bit narrower, shouldn't have that issue with Topo. Not tried any trail options but would be keen to.

jacdaw I was pleasantly surprised when I finally gave in and tried the trailflys. They are now my most-used shoe. I'm wearing out the soles before the uppers give way (I have had to repair a hole in the mesh where the toes flex on a couple of pairs).

Is it just me or are all minimalist shoes that still exist (of which there now seem to be much less), on the higher end of the price range? Whatever happened to the cheaper bargains I used to be able to find 😢

Every time I find a shoe I like, they fucking update it and add more fucking cushioning. NO! Stoppit! I *like* cardboard underfoot. Grumps. Is there anyone going the other way? Any new brands that haven't been marshmallowed yet? Inov-8s? I think I found Inov-8 quite narrow though? I can't fucking remember. I hate this. I just want to find something that stays the same. |

Inov8s are mostly marshmallowed. I bought some trailflys the other day (see discussion above), they are a bit padded, and I will likely get a pair or f-lites this week to use as road shoes. Inov8s all come with a width size; I like wide, 4 or 5 width. Other less padded trail / fell shoes I've been looking at are vjsports; the more aggressive models are pretty minimal, but possibly narrow. |

I definitely can't my head around a cushioned trail or fell shoe. For context my current shoe that I'm liking is a Saucony Kinvara either 12 or 13, can't remember. But the Kinvara 14 is out and it's got "improved cushioning". 🙄 I bought them because all the reviews said "cushioning a bit hard and it's quite wide". But it seems they've decided to sort out these "problems" and make it more like every other shoe on the market. |
