I hate cushioning, especially off road. But also on road. Any distance, 10k to 100 miles. I don't want any.

I will likely get a pair or f-lites this week to use as road shoes FWIW, I bought a pair of f-lites a little while back. I don't care for them as running shoes, although I can't quite put my finger on why - so I mostly only wear them in the gym. Obviously, YMMV. |

I agree. I don't mind a bit of padding and am a bit scared of the idea of the "proper barefoot" type shoe. But I don't want springs or pillows. Just want a basic, firm shoe, with a low drop and a nice wide toe box. I thought a lot of people did. But obviously not. |

AndyS I ran my first marathon in flites in 2010, but after that there were always wider low padded options, so I don't think I've had a pair since then. The current batch seem reasonably wide, so I'll give them a go.

Roo - pretty much my criteria, and why I seem to live in Inov-8 Trailfly 270s these days. Zero drop, some cushioning buy not the mushy sort, reasonably wide fit. Both K and I wear them now for anything other than heavy mud. Although I do marginally prefer the v1 to the new "improved" v2s 🤣 |

Thanks Flanker. Trailfly 270. I'll have a look at them. As soon as I decide to get a pair though they WILL "upgrade" them. I was also looking at Trailtalons? You're safe from the curse of me liking a shoe for a while yet, I've got another pair of Kinvara 13 to have in AND got a pair of the trail version of the same, the Peregrines. I can't really afford to "stock up" like this but both pairs were like half price and it saves me worry for at least 6 months! Hopefully a lot longer. |

trail talons (at least the minimal 235s) are also good. I used them for road shoes for a few years and did a couple of L100s in them, but they are very much a "US" style trail shoe, designed for hardpack and rocky surfaces, and a complete nightmare in mud (even worse than the 270s!) or on wet grass. They've been replaced by 270s in my armoury.

My head is going to explode. Have Inov-8 done away with the Trail Talon???? I've *just* started doing more training in mine and am really loving them so far. Got an email saying "check out our new colours", went to website... no Trail Talons on there anymore. I swear the shoe gods hate me. Every fucking time. |

Oh yeah, looks like I never updated the thread with what I went for in the end. The Saucony Peregrines were a terrible fit despite supposedly being the Trail version of the road shoes I have that are lovely. So I bought some Trail Talons. 🙄 |

Is that what the new trailfly / trailfly speed replace? They both look a bit upholstered for me, especially the trailfly.
