Does BA fly to Akureyri? The site doesn't seem to recognise it.

You'll have to fly to Keflavik then drive or fly up (from diff airport. It's a pain.) In spring/ summer, I recomment driving

NB the marathon has an ungenerous six hour cutoff. I think they introduced this after an 80-something walked round after knee surgery. He was awesome - on his 100 and something marathon - but the organsisers weren't very happy.
4 hours for the half and 2 for the 10 which should be doable for most people.
Rules also limit to "able-bodied" which is a bit dodgy but they probably cannot have wheelchairs because the road is not closed. Still, people with other kinds of disabilty should be allowed IMO or it is plain discrimination.
NO cyclists allowed to support runners (even though road is open so anyone can drive or bike round - just not allowed to help runners, pass out gels, give them a backie, etc.)
