Last year, you couldn’t test it, as it only became “active” on the day. Didn't know that. Not sure why they wouldn't let people test it before race day? If want to be confident I knew what I was doing and it was working before I set off on a 26.2mile run. Nothing worse than finishing and finding the app hadn't started or something! |

Not sure any other marathon tracker app is live before race day? Last year’s advice was to wear your own backup system ie gps watch. I don’t normally wear a watch but borrowed my wife’s for the event. Apart from one “I ran a squillion miles by mistake” story, I think it all went well. Any timing queries that I heard of were all satisfactorily resolved. It’ll be fine. |

The Dublin Marathon app last year let you do a test run before the day, and that gave me the warning that the apps would be setup to have people shouting at you during the run so I could make sure that I had the volume disabled when I was running my virtual run during another actual race.

They are suggesting testing the app a few days before, but why they can't release it till the 30th when (a) it must be a dead simple app to create and (b) they've known they'd need it for months and months and months - I cannot imagine.

I'd definitely echo the advice to use a good GPS watch as back up rather than relying on the app. I ran the virtual last year at Dorney Lake - so a properly measured course - and the app only showed just over 25M at the finish, so I ended up sending my Garmin upload as my proof. (Not surprisingly I didn't fancy running another mile or so just to satisfy wonky phone GPS!)

There are so many amazing stories connected with running the London Marathon: very few get wide coverage but that doesn't lessen their value. Here's a story about a bone marrow recipient and her donor, brought together by the Anthony Nolan register. They'll be running together next week. bbc.co.uk |

Is there any info on the elite start times? I had a look and couldn’t see anything. It’s normally men at 10 with the masses just behind. Seems to be staggered starts from before ten so assume the elites go off before?
