The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
They were asked the question yesterday about if they preferred a single lapper.. Bekele says he prefers a single lap as he said if there is a section he doesn't like on a lapped, he has to do it multiple times. But neither seemed that bothered, although they were bit tentative about predicting a time as they don't know the course. I though it was an interesting press conference really - it goes without saying that they're both fabulous athletes, but they came across quite different in their own way.
It was amusing when Bekele was asked if he was going to give Cheptegei any tips for his forthcoming 10k WR attempt in a week or so, and Bekele basically said "Urrrm, he doesn't need my advice".
Have seen comments about that it's a lapped course it won't be great for times because of all of the corners, but can't think that any of the bends in the road around St James park are exactly hairpin bends, and other than always turning to the right rather than it being mixed up a bit with direction changes it's only as twisty as the course would be normally.
Depending on what kind of barriers they stick up around the road though it could create an interesting wind tunnel if they have 6 foot barriers you can't see through on both sides of the road all the way round.
I think the weather will mitigate against fast times anyway.
One thing I've recently recogised about turns is that it's fine going around hairpins and tight 90deg turns at 7min miling but when things get quicker (for me, that's just sub 6min miling) it does get more challenging - the thought of going around them at sub 4:30 miling makes me appreciate how much of an impact cornering probably is on an elite marathoner.
Looks like all the corners are "open", ie greater than 90 degrees, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. Dead u turns are the real killer, my local parkrun has 2 of them in a 4-lap course and one is at lowest point on the lap.
I think its a pretty quick course. At the Buck House end its not really a corner just like track bend on a bit of a bigger scale. At Horseguards its a bit tighter but not especially so. Pancake flat as well I reckon
Yeah, I'd call it pancake flat too, despite the claims of hills from Spidermans video of the lap.
If running alone at 4:30 mileing around those bends it's probably still no issue, guess the problem arises when you are in a bunch and the person on the outside is stealing your space between you and the inside of the corner, and if they have a 6ft barrier there as well you can't even lean over the kerb.
