Oops sorry! Lots of places offering camp and cycle but get there quickly and book ahead asap. Lots of road closures, from 6.30 am, so driving close will be tricky. For example, I live 5 miles from Harewood and my road will be closed early, though there's access to carparks. I read an estimate today that 25000 cyclists are expected to go from Harewood (ceremonial start) to Harrogate! I'll be one of them! |

I've seen an announcement today that the closed roads will be open to walkers and cyclists up to an hour before the caravan is due

Just driven along the early part of stage 2, disappointingly very little decoration, just a few road closure signs (including notice you'll get towed away if you stop!)

Stage 3 of the tour passing through the next village to us. Email from school yesterday reminding us that it's a normal school day and they expect all children to be at school rather than watching the race. Seriously considering an "unauthorised absence" for the morning.

Meglet – sounds a bit like Sheffield yesterday. Much less bunting etc than in Leeds. There were no parking signs but not a great deal else on the stretch of the route I drove down and a general lack of road closure signs whereas in Leeds you can barely move for them. I think it very much does depend on the local council – in Leeds they are understandably rather more geared up for it and probably have put more resource into it – a lot of the banners outside schools and the like seem to have come from the city council rather than being independently sourced. Plus I think there is more going on in different bits of Leeds during the week and the media etc will be here for longer so it’s less confined to just the route itself. We’ll be exploring York city centre at the weekend. I hope that there is plenty of evidence of the race as I have two small boys to get excited about it On camping etc - the impression I get is that there is still capacity - because so many fields have been converted into temporary campsites plenty of them aren't full (and some have actually changed their plans to offer camping because of low bookings - I think it's oversupply rather than a lack of demand). And on schools - yes I would expect them to go out and watch it if it goes past (although I suppose if it's the next village it's a bit more difficult logistically) |
