Contador left it too late to chase it seems.

I suppose we will be told it was the crash, the conspiracy theorists will say its the (lack of) steroids, but what ever it was, he looked goosed.

The crash may have caused some issues. He was strong earlier in the week so hasn't lost that form so quickly.
Saxo's team here was diabolical, luck it was a B team as Contador would get worked over at the tour with that team.

I didn't see the break get away, but the fact that Talansky was allowed to go suggests none of the big men had a strong enough team, unless they were arrogant enough to think he didn't matter?

The break had done away before it went live but Sky had a strong enough team to control it if they wanted to, they even put men in the break (and even won the stage, lol). I assume the plan was for Froome to attack and bridge across but it failed (he did try to attack once on camera, and live text says Sky attacked earlier as well). Contador pretty much only followed Froome, then made his one attack to go after the lead group, at which point the gap was getting close to 3 mins!

I'd assumed it was a move to try and make Tinkoff Saxo chase the break. It may be the way I've read the feeds but the last couple pf days have felt like Sky and Saxo trying to do some tests on both themselves and each other, more so than trying to win. Today was rather a concerning lesson for Sky though - the Giro suggested that they acted a bit rudderless when without an obvious gc leader and the capability to boss the race.
