RIC as nuttyficket says it's very much a personal thing but i can't recommend the Ultimate Direction PB vest enough. I've had mine 10 months and it's the most comfortable pack I've ever used by a long way. Because the essentials are easily accessible I can go all day without the need to take it off, either from an access or comfort point of view. And it's never chaffed at all, which previously I'd always found to happen with the best packs if you wore them for long enough (usually at the bottom of my back). If you can find one you can borrow I'd suggest giving one a try. The only thing I didn't like was the original bottles which bruised my ribs when running quick, so I replaced them with marmot soft flasks.

A good friend of mine who was first lady at the Fellsman a few years ago introduced me to the idea of a sandwich bag with a good mixture of your favourite sweets as fuel for long days out (and a must if you're supporting a BG). "What do I fancy now I don't fancy anything?" A Squirm, a couple of JB's, a Werther's Original, some of those natural fruit jelly jobs, Bonfire toffee. Job's a good 'un

Interesting FlyingFinn... I was looking at soft flasks too. Though I might just move my bladder across as I wrote like that system. Combined with a collapsible cup for guzzling water at aid stations Can I ask what size you are in and what size chest you are FlyingFinn...

FF: agree on the soft bottles - I went for the pauper's option of empty Powerade bottles, but the sloshing does do your head in after .. well, after not very long, I found out Much more comfortable, will check out what Marmot do (didn't realise they were in that market)
DT: haha, I can totally get on board that Haribo got me through the end of the L100 this year, so really no reason they shouldn't be essential kit. Granted, they won't last from one run to the next, but good to keep in my pack on my run!

I think I've had maybe three or four gels in ten years. I'm a big fan of Tunnocks, Mars, Kit-Kats, sausage rolls, Jaffa Cakes and pork pies. One "get out of jail card" I do rate is a peanut Clif (ideally a freebie from a Jon Steele Hardmoors production)

About 34 inches (there ain't much of me!). Mine is the S/M. I've not used mine with a bladder (though with my previous Salomon pack that was my preferred method too) and I'm not sure how well that would work for a race like LL50? Space would be tight and I think the faffage at feed stations would be high. But I don't like to spend more than a few minutes stopped so being able to pass the bottles to a marshall whilst I grab a couple of handfuls of food is something I like.

Nuttyficket I got mine from Likeys. I actually saw some UD ones in the event center shop on Friday night but they were more expensive. I think UD have responded to comment and people switching to other peoples soft flasks.

So, DT, you heading to HM60 for a Clif Bar this year?
Good points on food; aside from Haribo for the last 15 miles, cheese sandwiches, stew and sandwiches were easily the best food for me at L100 .. and I didn't have to carry them. But some Marmite sandwiches wouldn't go amiss next year, if anyone reading!
