Dave A
The only upper body ache I had was from shoulder straps on my back pack. The only solution is more running with a back pack.

Think of Sealskins as wellies and (hopefully?) drymas as a miracle foot prophilactic against blisters for someone who's going to be out for 35 to 40 hours walking and jogging

DaveA: thanks for that, makes sense - I'm not so bad, I do a lot of backpack running outside of events. Maybe too lightweight, but sure this is a problem I can fix :)

DT: Ah, ok, thanks! I'd have to try Drymax, I guess, to appreciate the benefits. But (even after a very dry week or two in the Lakes) my feet got soaked between CP1 and CP2 in some boggy section, so not sure how Drymax are much help? There must be a better solution, surely? (cheaper socks and more changes, for example)

btw imho and absolutely genuinely no disrespect for anyone whos done the shorter event but the 50 and the 100 are as different as half a gallon of shandy and a gallon of Stella for all but talented and strong athletes. Mortals can 'run' the 50 in say 10 to 14 hours; the 100 is a 35 hour attritional trudge for a good proportion of the field. The ground and sheer distance with the unpredictable Lakeland summer climate make the 100 a very serious outing

Cheaper socks and more changes is a good solution. A large part of the hundred challenge is foot management. You're out too long for many people to put of their fave trailies and tough it out. I'd heard it was tough but it shocked me last year. Incidentally I never had much time for Sealskins but them and Mudclaws are ace for winter bog-trotting :-)

Cheers nuttyficket :-)
I like my S-Lab, but I am a 6ft bloke in a small :-o I think any larger would be a problem.
Zips are crap though. Also stupid fiddly clips. Get cold fingers and you cannot get the damn thing off! Very frustrating when warm clothes are in the back and you cannot reach them :-p Much cursing and use of a knife solved it.
That said, I'm looking at something bigger as I cannot fit the requisite kit in the S-Lab 5.

RIC, sounds like you're stuck trying to find your ideal pack - needing a knife to get at your pack is not a good sign :( Lots are good, some are great, very few are perfect! Unfortunately, you only ever find out that they have an annoying chafe/rattle/inaccessible pocket/etc 10 miles into a run, so it's borrow from someone (running club?) or risk some online reviews in search of a better pack. You're kinda spoilt for choice with packs around 10L capacity, so it's just a case of finding something that works for you.

Mine could be better, but I can live with the flaws :)

Looking at the Ultimate Direction stuff at the moment... ultramarathonrunningstore.com It's just sizing that can be an issue.
Mind you, as the S-Lab 5 is my hand luggage for when I travel abroad, the missus is keen on me getting something bigger :-) I do like it though, it's very comfortable on, just a swine to get off :-)
My eldest has stolen my old OMM pack and is using it for school, which was good, but never liked the hydration setup... Bottles too bouncy, bladder cut through the top pocket.
Plenty of time to research and shop though :-)

Go-lite Rush always looks a good option for me. For a start it has the surprisingly rare combinationm of botle holders plus hip belt pockets for sweets, compass, gloves etc. Decent size without being too big too

"sweets" DT?! Tsk, I had you down as a serious athlete. Are you sure you didn't mean "high performance energy beans"? ;)
