Anybody else doing the L50 that is seriously considering running/walking/crawling it in road shoes, particularly if this warm/dry spell continues for the next three weeks? I'm definitely going to take my Ghosts and ATR6's.

I think the mandatory kit is trail shoes so technically you would need to carry them in your pack if you go with road shoes

I’m usually a road shoes guy but it is quite rocky/shale in places so was happy with a bit of extra grip

I think there’s going to be enough loose stone and uneven ground to make trail shoes the right choice. I’m not sure it’s just a dry vs wet and muddy decision. I wore my intermediate Brooks Cascadias on RTTS yesterday and, although quite a few people were in road shoes, there was just enough loose and uneven ground for me to be pleased to have the stiffer soles.

Unless I've not read the instructions, never seen anything about footwear?

And I know that Charlie Sharpe in the year he finished the L100 in second place to Stuart Mills wore Saucony Ride's! ;-)

And the L100 is definitely more technical than the L50. Not sure I'd want to descend at night in road shoes from Black Sail!!!

Kit requirements
There is a strict kit check at event registration. Without the required kit, you will not be allowed to start. The compulsory kit list is as follows:
1. Waterproof trousers and jacket. Must be fully waterproof with taped seams (wind / showerproof not acceptable). The jacket must have a hood.
2. Spare base layers, long sleeve top and bottoms. These should be sealed in a bag and only used in emergency situations.
3. Hat and gloves.
4. Map and roadbook (supplied at registration)
5. Compass
6. First aid kit.
7. Emergency food (sealed in a bag to be used only in emergencies).
8. Head torch and spare batteries.
9. Whistle.
10. A back pack or similar to carry all the above.
11. Quality off road running shoes (not road shoes).
12. Mobile phone fully charged.
13. Blanket or survival bag.
14. Solid plastic cup for hot drinks or soup, 2nd cup / bottle or flask for cold drinks, a spork (or similar) for eating food at checkpoints.
