First session of lifting this morning and I loved it! I have a long way to go learning correct technique for everything but am looking forward to this challenge. Wonder what my back will be telling me on the morrow! 😂

Just spotted the "strength standard" and putting in my stats it tells me I am 24% stronger than the average knackered old lady.... Good grief they must be made from blancmange then!

I am the blancmange. Consistently "novice" for everything ... then I noticed that the number required is your 1RM and I was entering weights with which I can do 3 sets of 12 or more reps muppet

Yes Velociraptor initially I forgot to add my reps 😃 I like the tool though it gives me something to aspire to

I've now found the correct calculator. Still has me down as a weakling, but that was to be expected. I don't expect to improve much.

I'm not quite sure whether the calculator wants "reps per set to failure" or "total number of reps to failure, spread over several sets", which are very different numbers - the difference between the bottom quartile and the top quartile for most of the lifts I do, in my case. I suspect the former, just because being in the bottom quartile for strength would be in line with my cycling power output and lack of sprinting ability.

We took a look at a new-to-us climbing-related iron-pumping exercise today, for forearm pronation. Guess what's going to hurt tomorrow? gorilla

Not reported in for ages... Sorry!

Holidays, work and lurgy getting in the way.
Doing loads of Strong Woman, rather than 'real' lifting - and loving every minute of it.

Ha, Duracell! How's tricks? I've changed my name & avatar again, in case you're wondering who the faceless entity chatting at you is. I think you & CK2 are on the same women's lifting group on Facebook

Snatch PB for me on Tuesday, ugly lift but it was a legal lift in Olympic terms (the first time I did a body weight C&J, the jerk wasn't legal).

Today decided to test my 1RM on the squat, ended up with a squat of exactly 1.5 body weight. Had a slight sticking point but got through it. Tried 5kg more and was stuck underneath, after letting go, felt like I could maybe have tried harder but being stuck under a weight you've never lifted before feels a lot different to being under one for the 5th rep in a set!

Not something I plan on doing often but as I can't currently run as much as I want to, I was fresher than normal.

...and according to the standards I need to lift 112 to not be a novice, lol.

About This Thread

... a weights wire for women.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.

Here's a strength standards for women thing Duracel found for us
